An open public forum examining the right to die and physician assisted death is being held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Saturday, February 6.
A distinguished panel made up of David Swann, MLA Mountain View; Juliet Guichon, medical ethicist University of Calgary; Philip Zachariah, legal counsel University of Calgary; Eric Wasylenko, medical advisor Alberta Health Services; Bradley Peter, Edmonton Chapter, Dying With Dignity Canada; and Daranne Harris, vice president and CMO Pastoral Care, Bethany Care Society, will address the topic.
The goal of the event is to enable people to become more engaged with this complex matter, to become more informed about it, and to actively participate in discussions as citizens.The Quebec government has already passed a bill on this subject. The Supreme Court of Canada has asked the Parliament of Canada to come up with guidelines; this forum will give people the opportunity to have a voice.
The forum is hosted by St. Andrew’s Anglican with Christine Conkin, Rector and parishioner Mathew Zachariah, U of C Professor Emeritus as lead organizers.
