Medical Assistance in Dying and Mental Disorder as the Sole Underlying Condition: An Interim Report

Pursuant to its Orders of Reference from the Senate on Thursday, March 31, 2022, and Wednesday, May 4, 2022, and from the House of Commons on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, and Monday, May 2, 2022, the committee has studied mental illness as a sole underlying condition in the context of the statutory review of the provisions of the criminal code relating to medical assistance in dying and their application.

Final Report of the Expert Panel on MAiD and Mental Illness

To support an objective and informed approach to the issue, Bill C-7 required the Minister of Health and the Minister of Justice to initiate an independent expert review “respecting recommended protocols, guidance and safeguards to apply to requests for medical assistance in dying by persons who have a mental illness.”
