We appreciate every word, every hug and every note of support.

We appreciate every donation towards the Toronto Waterfront Marathon runs we have participated in to raise funds for cervical cancer and we so love everyone who has participated in each one.  

I have sent pins to those who’ve asked for them and who have donated to Dying With Dignity Canada in Sam’s honour.  

I have met far too many parents this year who have lost children, under similar or different circumstances, and it cuts at my heart. It is certainly a club not one of us would ever wish on the other. It’s painful that it all seems so senseless. My heart goes out to all of them.  

We are not unique in our sorrow over losing a child but the circumstances surrounding our daughter’s death are something we need to put an end to. It’s a total abuse of power that is completely irresponsible and cruel, and it defies a right that is guaranteed under our Charter.

Today is Sam’s birthday. She would have been 38 years old.    

The world was so much better with her here, and we will miss her always.

She would’ve hated the attention had she still been here, but we also know she would’ve fought, like we are, to protect the rights of those she loves – so we will continue until the practice of forced transfers are not allowed to occur anywhere.
