The results of Canada’s 2025 federal election are in, and the Liberal Party of Canada has secured a minority government. As Canada’s only national human-rights charity committed to protecting end-of-life rights, Dying With Dignity Canada eagerly anticipates the opportunity to engage the new government ministers, when appointed, on ensuring equitable end-of-life rights for people across the country. This includes establishing legal advance requests for medical assistance in dying (MAID), something that 84% of people across Canada support. We continue to support the ability for those living with a disability to consider MAID if they choose and work toward an end to the discriminatory exclusion of those whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness from MAID. We look forward to the opportunity to educate and engage MPs across all parties on the importance of end-of-life rights. Compassion and choice ensure everyone can choose their good death.
