Valerie Hussey

Valerie Hussey is a seasoned professional with more than 35 years of experience in publishing and management. She has worked with non-profit organizations and small businesses in areas of social enterprise creation, strategic planning, board development and review, and fundraising. Valerie has extensive experience working with non-profit boards from creation to renewal stages.

As the owner of a leading Canadian children’s book publisher, Valerie’s expertise included financial management, marketing, human resources, strategic planning, and contract law. She played an active role in developing Canadian cultural policy at all levels of government. Valerie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Education from the State University of New York, Buffalo, and completed Executive and Fundraising programs through the Maytree Foundation and Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She has lectured and served as guest faculty at a number of colleges and universities across the Greater Toronto Area, as well as the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Valerie is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors of the MS Society of Canada and served for several years on the Women’s College Hospital Board. She is a long-time supporter of the Canadian Women’s Foundation, and held the role of Co-President as well as Chair of the Economic Development Collaborative Fund. Valerie is interested in the way laws and public policy reflect and advance social change, and is passionate about the right of the individual to choice.
