To kick off our special webinar series, DWDC welcomed Dr. Aravind Ganesh, a vascular and cognitive neurologist at the University of Calgary, and Emily Phillips-Hyde, a clinical nurse specialist with Cardiac Sciences Manitoba, for an in-depth look at congenital heart disease, heart failure, and stroke.
Speakers
Dr. Aravind Ganesh completed his MD degree at the University of Calgary, followed by a DPhil in Clinical Neurosciences at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. He then completed his neurology specialization in Calgary. He is now a vascular and cognitive neurologist and an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary’s Departments of Clinical Neurosciences, Radiology, and Community Health Sciences. His clinical research is focused on imaging, outcomes, prevention, and treatment of stroke and dementia, including development and testing of devices and automated software to improve patient care.
Emily Phillips completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree along with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree the University of Western Ontario. She obtained her Masters of Nursing degree from the University of Manitoba, where she is currently a Doctoral candidate. She has worked clinically as a nurse in cardiology, the cardiac surgery intensive care unit, and cardiac critical care. She is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist supporting cardiac care in Manitoba. Her research focuses on implementing research findings into clinical practice by engaging patients and the healthcare team.
