Everyone dies – and for many of us, a funeral or end-of-life ceremony is a vital way to remember the life and legacy of the deceased. But what options are available out there, and how can you know which one is right for you? We were joined by representatives from traditional, green, and natural burial services to discuss the different ways a body can be laid to rest, how much it costs and what is involved, and how to determine what kind of service would be meaningful to you.
Colin Benesch is a third-generation funeral director, licensed in 2018, with eight years of experience serving the Victoria community. Passionate about sustainable end-of-life care, he actively advocates for legislative change to legalize and promote greener alternatives, including Aquamation, Natural Organic Reduction, and Green Burial. As part of Earth’s Option, Colin supports families through a mobile funeral service model, providing compassionate, informed, and pressure-free arrangements in the comfort of their own homes.
Susan Greer is the Executive Directive of the Natural Burial Association, a volunteer organization dead set on bringing natural burial grounds to Ontario and ensuring everyone has an option which heals the earth and aligns with their values.
Debbie Pettit has been dedicated to the funeral service profession for 25 years at A. Millard George Funeral Home, a family-owned and operated establishment celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. In addition to her role at the funeral home, she also works with its sister company, Cremation London & Middlesex. As a Funeral Preplanner and Aftercare Specialist, she is passionate about guiding individuals and families through end-of-life planning with care and compassion. Outside of her professional work, Debbie enjoys traveling, particularly to Newfoundland, and cherishes time with her two daughters and seven grandchildren
