Despite MAID being a legal option since 2016, equitable access to MAID, including the location of one’s MAID death, remains a challenge. MAiDHouse’s Executive Director Tekla Hendrickson discussed how the charity provides a safe space for clinicians, requestors, and their loved ones.

Tekla Hendrickson is the Executive Director for MAiDHouse, and has extensive experience, locally and internationally, in managing, operating and advising not-for-profits in the areas of health promotion, homelessness and women’s rights. She has co-authored articles on developing processes to engage marginalized women in research, policy and practice; the issue of homelessness and developing shared solutions. Tekla is a past board member of Women’s College Hospital, Unit Director of Sistering, Provincial Director of Ontario Women’s Health Network and co-founder of Toronto Community Based Research Network and Inclusion Research. She has also been a member of the Disability and Women Advisory Committee for the Association for Women Action and Research – Singapore. Tekla was a delegate at The Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (2008).
