Journeys with choice: Shining a light on barriers to assisted dying – July 24, 2019
Webinars | August 1, 2019

A cornerstone of Dying With Dignity Canada’s work is putting the person at the centre of our mission. On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, DWDC hosted a webinar that focused on the experiences of those who had supported a loved one through accessing medical assistance in dying (MAID).
This webinar was hosted by Liana Brittain, the chair of Dying With Dignity Canada’s new First Person Witness Council. Lianna shared the story of her late husband, Paul Couvrette, who accessed assisted dying in May 2017. Liana has spoken out extensively about her husband’s choice and has become a leading advocate for people who have supported a loved one’s journey with MAID.
Speakers who shared their stories included:
- Megan Greenberg of British Columbia, whose mother, Devorah, was forced to leave the publicly funded facility where she was living in order to access MAID
- Paul Morck of Alberta, whose wife, Barb, struggled to get a proper assessment for MAID before she lost the capacity to consent to the procedure
Watch the webinar recording today to hear their moving stories and learn how MAID is affecting communities across the country.
This webinar was an instalment in Dying With Dignity Canada’s End in Mind Online Education Series.
