In conversation with… Funeral Directors: Stories of support, community, and end-of-life
On July 13, Dying With Dignity Canada was joined by Bill Nixon and Bill Denning to discuss what they do, common misconceptions about their services, and how they support individuals and their families.
Speakers:
Bill Nixon is a proud father of two with over 40 years of experience as a Licensed Funeral Director. After his grandfather and uncle passed in close succession, Bill realized that his family and his community didn’t really know how to discuss and process death. Since then, Bill has worked in funerary services from the age of 18, providing comfort to families across Ontario and in British Columbia. Now Manager of Operations at Turner & Porter, Bill is passionate about supporting families undergoing the grief process, and has begun to expand his funeral home’s services to accommodate those requesting MAID.
Bill Denning is a fourth-generation funeral director and a “Celebration of Life” creator. Bill is proud to serve his small community of Rodney, Ontario and takes his inspiration from his family and community to make each passing unique and meaningful. Over the past few years, Bill and his team have been asked to help families not only after death but throughout it by providing a space for MAID to take place – meeting with and listening to families about what is important to them and incorporating their wishes to create a special experience for all involved.
