Bridge C-14

Since 2017, Bridge C-14 has created a network of peer-to-peer connections and community supports for individuals at all stages of medical assistance in dying. President Lauren Clark and volunteers Ryan Murphy and Tania Stilson shared heartfelt stories of connection that exemplify Bridge C-14’s mission to bridge the gap between procedure and compassion.

Lauren Clark has been volunteering with Bridge C-14 since its launch in November 2017 and took over the organization as President & CEO in June 2019. Lauren’s professional role is that of a Social Worker at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH). She holds a permanent position in the Medicine Department at the Civic Campus and was a member of the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Team at TOH and with the Champlain Regional MAiD Network until 2021.

Ryan Murphy has dedicated time outside of their professional life to volunteer with 31 different organizations. Many of these volunteer roles have been in the areas of mental health, human rights, and international development. Since 2022, Ryan has been actively involved with Bridge C-14 as a volunteer, primarily facilitating 10-Week Peer Support Groups for individuals grieving a medical assistance in dying (MAID) loss. Ryan has also facilitated drop-in sessions and is a Community Liaison with Bridge C-14.

Tania Stilson has been sharing the perspective of her family’s MAiD journey (Track 2) since her Dad’s passing in January 2023. She and her Dad shared the belief that, like most good things in life, a good death is worth thinking and talking about. Her MAID volunteer work currently includes presenting at service clubs, death cafes, and various healthcare settings and conferences. She has been featured on the Disrupting Death podcast and has been part of a digital storytelling course through Lakehead University Centre for Education and Research on Aging & Health.
