Dr. Patrick Perry Lydon was born in Galway, Ireland. He gained his Medical Degree at University College Galway and did a Fellowship in Psychiatry. He emigrated to Canada with his wife Anne Marie in 1975. Dr. Lydon practiced in Brandon, Manitoba and then Cranbrook, BC, before moving to Victoria in 1983. he continues to maintain a private practice in the city of Victoria, with a special focus on the assessment and management of Adult ADHD.
In his personal time Dr. Lydon has been a member of the Old Cemeteries Society and the Victoria Genealogical Society, and President of the Victoria Lapidary and Mineral Society. He also has a placer claim on the Loss Creek. Dr. Lydon has two children, Louise and Robert. His wife Anne Marie passed away in 2011 and is buried in Ross Bay Cemetery.
As Derryck Smith states, "the end of life care needs to be looked at carefully". There are no easy answers but the present situation is not acceptable. New provisions need to be developed to limit the suffering of many Canadians at this stage of their lives. The debate must be reopened with an effort to develop appropriate guidelines.
