On February 15, 2023, the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying tabled its Final Report. In total, the Special Joint Committee presented 23 recommendations, including a recommendation to allow advance requests following a diagnosis of a serious and incurable medical condition disease, or disorder leading to incapacity.
The federal government has until June 15 to respond to these recommendations — meaning right now is our best opportunity to see meaningful changes to end-of-life choice and care for people across Canada.
