News & Updates | January 19, 2024 | Sarah Dobec
Note: The deadline for signatures on the e-petition was February 13 at 10:56 a.m. ET – and Dying With Dignity Canada is humbled to announce that, in total, 16,466 individual people across Canada added their names to the list. These are astounding results and validate the widespread support for this change to MAID legislation.
One. Sign the e-petition in support of advance requests for MAID initiated by five concerned citizens and authorized by MP Brendan Hanley (Yukon). Share the e-petition link in all your networks using this link.
- A petition is used to draw attention to an issue of public interest or concern and to request that the Government of Canada take some action. It will serve as an added indication of the degree of urgency exhibited for this change to the Criminal Code that 82% of people across Canada support.
Two. Write a letter to your Member of Parliament through our digital letter-writing tool.
Three. Better yet, call your MP or set up a meeting with them to discuss the issue in person. Use our Advocacy Toolkit to prepare.
Four. Write an opinion piece or letter to the editor to your local paper. Share why you personally support advance requests for MAID.
