The protection of people living with disabilities

Every Canadian has a constitutionally protected right to make their own end-of-life decisions.

Dying With Dignity Canada supports calls for increased investments into supports for people living with disabilities, including those targeted at enhancing income and social supports, reducing waiting lists for housing, specialist care, day programs and assistive devices, and assisting with the navigation of a complex and confusing health care system. We also call for a consultative Parliamentary Review process that fully includes and respects the positions of people with disabilities and organizations representing them, as well as the constitutionally protected right of every Canadian to make their own end-of-life decisions.

A 2022 Ipsos poll showed that 86% of persons with a disability support the right to medical assistance in dying.
