The Green Party of Canada supports the repeal of Track 2 – MAID for those whose death is not reasonably foreseeable. Elizabeth May was quoted as saying, “Our focus should be on closing the social safety net before expanding MAID. People should not have an easier time accessing services to die than services to ensure they can live with independence and dignity.”

Green House Co-Leader, Elizabeth May, lent her support for advance requests by seconding Private Member’s Bill C-390. Bill C-390 sought to amend the Criminal Code to allow a person with an illness that will deprive them of the capacity to consent to make an advance request for MAID under a provincial framework. Bill C-390 died on the order paper when Parliament prorogued in January 2025.
