Curl for Choice

On January 3, 2011 Judy Folkard died after a painful struggle. In her memory, Bruce Folkard is organizing the First Annual Curl for Choice. It will be held at the Guelph Curling Club on October 29, 2011.

In previous years, Judy organized funspiels to support cancer and last year alone raised over $15,000.  Please join us this year, whether you want to curl, volunteer or be a sponsor, we need you.

  • In memory of Judy Folkard

Curl for Choice is in honor of Judy Folkard.  Judy's wish was for her husband Bruce to work towards ensuring all Canadians can have peaceful deaths.  Judy, we think he will have made you proud!

  • Guelps Raises over $6,000

Huge thanks to Bruce Folkard and the many sponsors, curlers and volunteers from Guelph and area who together raised over $6,000 for Curl for Choice in memory of Judy Folkard.

  • Guelph puts out an unmissable welcome

Anyone driving on Woolwich Rd. in Guelph wouldn't miss this welcome.  Big thanks to the Guelph curling club and especially manager Kathy who helped to make this day so very special.

  • Paul Crevier Skips the Winning Team

And the winner is...  Paul Crevier and his team from Creemore aren't bad curlers - and when the points for all the pledges they collected  were added in they were unbeatable!

Pictured from left to right are Paul Crevier, Karen Crevier, Bob McLeod and Joan MeLeod.

  • Three Cheers for Volunteers

This fabulous event would never have happened without the support of volunteers.  Pictured is Big John Trothen working away in the kitchen - and boy it was worth coming to the event just for one of John's burgers!

Our thanks also go to Ellany Chataigneau, Margaret Nixon, Earl, Carole and Julie DeSensi for their efforts which helped make the day a success.

And of course special and lasting thanks to our Curl for Choice Chair, Bruce Folkard.

  • Ministers at Play

Long time DWD member, volunteer, speaker and advocate Don Johns skips his team of ministers through the tournement.

  • And the prize for the best hats goes to...

While a win just eluded them, Karen Hennessy skipped her team to their first ever five-point end.

And for style points the team was untouchable!

  • That's a lot of money to count!

Volunteers Ellany Chataigneau (left) and Margaret Nixon (right) looked after the registration table and counted all that money.  Thank you both!
