Supreme Court of Georgia Overturns Assisted Suicide Restriction

In 2011, the Attorney General for the State of Georgia announced that assisted suicide was legal in that state.
There remained, however, a restriction that no one could legally advertise such assistance.
In its decision yesterday, February 6th, 2012, the Supreme Court of Georgia announced that this law was an unconstitutional restriction of free speech and the four volunteers from Final Exit Network who had been charged with illegally assisting a suicide had their charges dropped.
Final Exit Network (FEN) like Dying With Dignity Canada, provides information and support to those at end of life who are suffering unbearably. This support includes being present at the bedside of individuals who choose to hasten their dying.
FEN had been infiltrated by an agent of the Georgian Bureau of Investigation who claimed to be wanting to suicide. Read the full story in the New York Times here.
