It's Like Calling Surgery a Knife Attack

By Wanda Morris, Executive Director.

The National Post recently profiled Forum Research's poll indicating continued strong support for expanding end of life choices to include medically-assisted dying.

But they didn't use those words.  Instead the headline, the article and the poll itself all referred to physicians helping patients commit suicide.

In a response published in today's National Post, I suggested that the Post choose its words more carefully.

I suggested that calling this (assistance to die for critically ill patients at end of life) suicide is like calling surgery a knife attack. Click here for the link to the full letter.

How we frame the debate matters. Please send your own letters to the editor or other media if you hear people talking about assisted suicide when what they really mean is assisted dying.
